1) If you don’t like tennis, don’t play tennis
If you love to play tennis, make the best out of your time and be aware that time is running. When you’re young you will feel like you have all the time in the world. I remember when Rainer Schuettler was young. He said: “I want to play tennis, but at 30 I will be so happy when I can stop.” A lot of players have this feeling when they are young. Then you see the players when they’re getting older and they absolutely love every year they can add to their career because they’re doing one of the best things they can do.

A top 100 Player is top 100 in the world at doing his/her job. Not many people will become top 100 in any other job they will pursue. In other words, the players are doing something that is exceptional.

2) Understand the hard work necessary to be successful
If you are only working hard when it’s fun, don’t bother. No matter how talented you are you need to consistently work hard to simply have the opportunity to become a great Tennis Player.

3) Be with friends and family that tell you the truth
Don’t be with people who are only with you because they want to be part of a success. Surround yourself with people who will keep you grounded as you are becoming a better tennis player.
