Just because I do my way, people should do it another way.
I have been asked about If my kid goes into tennis, if I would be sad if he/she did it for the money? No, of course not. The world works great, in contrast.
People should do it for their own reasons. If people want to do a career — Who am I to judge?
There is absolutely room for individuality and intuitive art only works because there is some opposite number to that. It’s very, very important for me to think that there is no right or wrong. That there is no magic formula.
Tennis is not math
You can’t just apply one thing and another thing and wupti it will work and you’ll have a magic formula and everybody’s going to be good.
I think that’s maybe also one of the criticisms of tennis that everything is a little bit too monotone. Everybody plays a little bit the same way and they talk about the lack of characters and different game styles.
I think the world works great in contrast. That’s why when I work with Mikael Ymer, it’s really important that I don’t try to apply my values to him but try to expose his qualities because they’re obviously very different to mine. I want to see his qualities.
I don’t want to see mine in his way of expressing himself. I just want to see him explore and be the best possible person he can be for his qualities. There is not some universal template that I want to put on to everybody, because I’m fascinated by the difference in people and everybody’s different. I want to see that difference in every individual.
