We believe our players will become better players once they understand certain soft skills better. Coaches are also responsible of developing soft skills and not only the hard skills on the court, such as tennis techniques and tactics, etc.
Winning through intensity is one of these principles
We believe that a lot of lessons are not intensive enough. That’s what we can see if we watch the lessons around Switzerland, but also our lessons in our national center. Intensity doesn’t need to be understood only physical wise.
Intensity is also about communication, it’s the mental readiness as well as the regeneration
So, it’s a very broad topic. It needs to start with us as coaches understanding that intensity is not only about the physical aspect. We are working with national coaches to create a shared language that everybody understands So, the question is now how we are able to break it down all the way to the specific lesson and drill.
As a Coach I need to understand how I bring the players to their limit working on e.g. speed and Agility. Because speed and agility are only expressed correctly if the players are on their limit. If they only move a little bit fast, there is no benefit to the training. Bringing the players to their limit, that is a question of intensity. But
What does intensity mean and how can I bring it out?
I need to explain the meaning of each exercise and each movement.
I need to explain each step of the exercise
How I explain the goal of the exercise is very important.
The way I explain is about how I communicate to them.
In my communication it’s very important that I keep eye contact. But it’s not just an eye contact. It’s a very intensive eye contact. Only then the players will be able to go their limit.
When the players are moving, when they do a change of direction, during they do a multidirectional drill, it’s important how I give feedback to them.
Feedback is also a part of communication.
So, it’s very important to understand how I send and how they receive. If we go this deep, then we start to understand intensity is something very important to express.
