If a Tennis Coach create an environment where the players trust them & what they are asked to do, then they’re not distracted by what may be otherwise.

There will be an unconditional effort from the players & it’s amazing how much easier Coaching gets & how much more attention we as coaches can put on the actual development of the player.

Although I think a lot of coaches will agree with the above statement, too often we rush into the x’s & o’s of practice unwilling to build that trust off & on the court oftentimes because it’s so easy to fall into the trap of thinking that it’s a “waste of time” & “let’s hit some balls instead”.

My experience is that it’s sometimes the 3 minute talk before the warm up, it’s the talk while the players are warming up, it’s the ride too a tournament or the chat in the small club shed on a rainy day that can create that trust. But whatever it is and whenever the opportunity arises we need to grap it & start building that trust in order to better the chances of maximizing the actual time spent on the practice court.
